History

i-City is a 72 acres ICT-based urban development beside the Federal Highway in Section 7, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. Master planned by world-renowned and award-winning architect Jon A Jerde, i-City was designed as a fully integrated intelligent city, comprising corporate, leisure and residential components such as a 1.0 million sq. ft. regional shopping mall, office towers, Cybercentre office suites, hotels, apartments, data centres and innovation centre.
i-City is a MSC Malaysia Cybercentre where knowledge-based companies with MSC Malaysia status can enjoy the various incentives offered under the MSC Malaysia Bills of Guarantee. It has also been endorsed as a Tourism Destination by the Ministry of Tourism and declared as an International Park by the Selangor State Government where entertainment and other cosmopolitan lifestyle outlets are permitted to operate on a 24 X 7 basis.
With 13 million sq ft of approved built-up and a Gross Development Value of RM 3 billion, this gated and guarded development is today recognized as a catalyst in the transformation of Shah Alam into an International City. Although todate only 20% of the land area has been developed, i-City is already an established MSC Malaysia Cybercentre as well as leisure hub in Shah Alam attracting 90,000 visitors a week to experience its LED lightscape, Snowalk as well as the various themed attractions.

Overview

MSC Malaysia Cybercentre
I-City's developer, I-Berhad, has been awarded the MSC Malaysia Cybercentre Status for the RM2-billion information and communications technology (ICT)-based commercial development. The company said the development of i-City into an MSC Malaysia Cybercentre was a strategic fit in its corporate plans to make i-City an international world class techno-city using the latest ICT technology.
"Following the award by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, i-City is currently working together with Multimedia Development Corp Sdn Bhd, the authority that oversees all MSC Malaysia cybercentres and cybercities, on the final details and an agreement will soon be signed. "Similar to other Cybercentres and Cybercities throughout Malaysia, the 28.8-hectare i-City is now an international zone, where the MSC Bill of Guarantees will apply," it said.
I-Berhad said ICT companies with MSC Malaysia status could now be located in i-City and use it as their addresses in an official MSC Malaysia zone.
I-City , planned by American architect, Jon A. Jerde, is designed as a fully integrated township. It is endorsed as the first Cybercentre in Selangor and would take five years to complete. [1]

I-City And Al Rajhi Bank (Malaysia) Have Today Entered Into A Sale And Purchase Agreement For The Bank To Purchase 36 Units Of I-City Cybercentre 1 Office Suites For RM 95.0 Million. The Balance Of 20% Will Be Retained By I-City For Local ICT Companies In Compliance With MSC Malaysia’s Requirements.
Buildings
Within i-City, CityPark is designated building to house MSC Malaysia status companies. CityPark consists of 6 blocks and have the combined office space of more than 300,000 sqft. The entire i-City development. will feature eight corporate towers, two luxury hotels, two blocks of 24-storey residences, three and five storey shop-offices, and retail suites. It will also house a 1 million sq ft shopping mall, Data Centres and an Innovation Centre.
Data Centre
i-City has launched their Data Centre Park, which aims to be one of the largest data centre space providers in a single location in Malaysia. The Data Centre Park is designed for data centre service providers and large companies who plan to build their own data centre buildings. The park has the capacity to host up to four centres with a combined floor space of 200,000 sq ft. i-City has also been awarded the International Park status by the Selangor State Government, where cosmopolitan lifestyle environments can be offered to investors and business community in the area. This will allow i-City to provide a balance of state-of-the-art infrastructure as well as quality of life needed by professionals and knowledge workers in the area.

Located in the city of Shah Alam, i-City is a one-of-a-kind theme-park where all the main attractions are made of plastic and millions of bright LED lights. Similar to Elmer Long’s Bottle Tree Ranch, during the day, i-City’s artificial forest of maple and pine trees really comes to life at night. Made out of plastic and fitted with colorful LEDs, they put on a light show unlike any other.
Inaugurated in early 2010, Shah Alam‘s i-City has already become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Malaysia. From rows upon rows of LED-made Chinese lanterns, to LED peacocks, flamingos and LED cherry blossoms, i-City offers a variety of unique sights that are sure to amaze anyone who visits here.
Snowalk
SnoWalk, a 50,000 sq ft Arctic environment attraction with 100 tons of ice sculptures that were shaped by a team of 30 ice sculptors from Harbin, China. At below 5 degrees Celsius temperature and 100mm of snow on the ground, SnoWalk will be a unique family leisure attraction and the snowfall experience will be the 'piece de resistance' of Snowalk.
Events
i-City has hosted various large-scale events and programmes, such as Malaysia’s Independence Day Celebration on 31 August and the Mid-Autumn Festival. During the 2010 World Cup, i-City also screened the matches live from Johannesburg on its 6.5m x 8.5m video wall, the largest video screen in Southeast Asia. It has also hosted MTV World Stage live in Malaysia July 2011.
Others
True Discovery is a reptile exhibition located behind Old Town White Coffee Shop. It houses some reptiles collection and exotic animals like snakes, tarantula and reptiles. Among its attractions is a two headed terrapin.
